The last one in the Riverbank triage, this was a painting that took on a life of its own. Sharp eyed viewers will notice that I have painted that oddly shaped tree before it overhangs a quiet stream in a small village called Brompton-by-Sawdon. For this painting I have widened the stream into a river so I could highlight the shady bank against the hot summer scene in the background. When I started to paint the foliage on the trees it became almost hypnotic and the leaves appeared to be gently moving in a river borne breeze. I was so pleased with the result that I decided to replicate the colours in the river using different marks with the brush. Ripples started to appear and the river began to flow so I am very well pleased with this impressionist painting.
