Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. Dane's Dyke was originally constructed over a thousand years ago to keep out the Vikings. It protected the whole headland of Flamborough. Obviously when first made all the trees were cut down so attackers had no cover. Today, though, it is a fantastic nature reserve and worth visiting in any saeson.
