Artist's Description
This painting was always about the sky. The Yorkshire Wolds are rightly praised for big skies and we have enjoyed some glorious ones lately. This scene is a perfect vehicle for showing off one of our ‘big skies’. It is based on a photo taken by Dean Smith who lives in the village and he kindly gave me permission to use it as a framework for my painting. It is a good composition and though the landscape is dominated by the sky, the church gives a good focal point as well as a sense of scale.
