Artist's Description
Turkey Lane is a shortcut from Carnaby up to Woldgate. We have used it lots of times on our way home to Kilham and I have long wanted to paint this scene. However, it is a single-track road on a blind bend, so setting up an easel would be a rather dangerous occupation. Armed with my memories and a couple of reference shots by Merice, I finally decided to give it a try. It is all about the light – the contrast between the dark overhanging trees and the bright sunlight on the road. The church of St John the Baptist stands in the background.
