Artist's Description

You will all know by now that I am a big fan of the great Victorian artist John Atkinson Grimshaw. However I have always felt a bit sorry for the enigmatic lady who features in so many of his moonlight paintings. After all she is always on her own, it is night time of course, always wet and always in winter judging by the skeletal trees. So I thought I’d give her an outing in the sun for a well earned change. My watercolour is based on Grimshaw’s ‘Silver Moonlight’ though I took a few liberties with his original composition. Nevertheless here she is finally in daylight. As usual she’s heading down a tree lined lane. There’s a large mansion ahead of course. Is that her destination and who exactly is she? Well that’s for you to decide.
Originally I envisaged a stroll in the sunshine for her but on a bright sunny day there are inevitably shadows so she ended up in the shade – not far to go though before she reaches the full brightness of summer.

LIGHT.......inspires me LEGEND.......intrigues me LANDSCAPE inspires me! I have letters after my name...F.O.L....but it is not 'Fellow of..' but 'Fell Off'...a ladder! I took the plunge in 2003 and with the support of my lovely wife I began to paint full time. Since then I have had the good fortune to exhibit in many prestigious galleries and shows, selling paintings all over the world. I am also a Professional Associate Tutor of the Society of All Artists and...
