Artist's Description

There are the fossilised remains of a sponge bed on Sewerby beach. It is an interesting place to explore with lots of seawater pools when the tide has receded. We lived in Sewerby for a few years and spent a lot of time on this beach and found a lobster in a pool and a seal basking on the bed on one occasion. I painted this quickly using just five colours. If you know the place you will appreciate that I have taken a few artistic liberties.
