Artist's Description

This painting was inspired by a photograph taken by my wife Merice. Set in the Yorkshire Dales, I thought it was ideal for the ‘Farquharson’ treatment. What is that I hear you ask? You might never have heard the name Joseph Farquharson, but I dare say you will have seen one of his paintings at some time. Born in 1846, Farquharson was a son of a Scottish Laird. He was well down the list of heirs, so he was able to pursue his passion for art. However, after a series of unfortunate events, he ended up as Laird of his vast family estate. Now he really could indulge in his art. He had a mobile studio constructed. It was horse drawn and he would go out painting on his land. He liked to paint sheep in the snow, but the sheep had a penchant for wandering off. Not a problem to a wealthy laird. He commissioned a series of life size sculptures of sheep in different poses. Problem solved! Picture the scene. The Laird would be cocooned in his warm studio with butler on hand to supply a tot or t...
