Description
Perusing old sketches (again!), I came across one dated 16th December 2016 entitled ‘Waiting for Dill’s Trim’. Dilly was one of our rescue dogs. She had been found tethered and abandoned on a dual carriageway. She had been used as a breeding machine in a puppy farm and was in a terrible condition.
After her horrendous start in life, she was not expected to live more than a year or two at most, but she was with us for four and a half. At times we thought she had made a complete recovery from her problems but then she would have an inexplicable relapse. However, one thing that never wavered was her spirit. She brought us lots of joy in our time together. Part of her treatment entailed lots of grooming. Our groomer wanted owners to leave their dogs with her as it was less distracting for them. Sometimes we would nip down into Bridlington and have a coffee but this occasion I had taken her on my own. I went to the Thornwick Bay car park and did the sketch.
I did the painting with a limited palette (no surprise there) to capture the muted tones and colours of a winter morning. Dilly loved her walks, so I have added us all together enjoying a cliff top stroll.
We have since adopted Meg and Peggy who give us equal joy, but there will always be a place in our hearts for our Dilly.
