Foxgloves are quite mysterious flowers. From a scientific viewpoint they were the source of digitalis a poisonous though valuable medicine in the fight against heart disease. Although later superseded by manmade drugs I believe digitalis is making something of a comeback for use in the medical world. For the rest of us the tall graceful plant with the striking flowers is associated with the ‘wee’ folk – the fairies, sprites, and elves – who live side by side with us but are seldom seen. What better place then to paint foxgloves than Fairy Call Beck? And yes this is a real place. It is situated in the North Yorks Moors National Park. So did you hear a faint call or did you just catch a tantalising glimpse of something moving very fast? In Fairy Call Beck all things are possible!
