My dear reader, you may not be aware that the highest mountains in the world are in Yorkshire. They have just worn down a bit. We also have the largest lakes in the world even if they have dried out a little. Though these facts are indisputable I must admit to being very impressed on my first visit to the Lake District. This rare foray away from God’s own county was brought about by a celebration of our twenty fourth wedding anniversary. Despite my trepidation Merice dragged me away to a small hotel in Keswick for a long weekend. To be fair the landscape is stunning and like many artists before me I soon fell under its spell. With towering mountains overlooking sparkling lakes, what more does a painter need? Even though our main reason for the visit was to celebrate our special occasion I still managed to do several sketches.
