Artist's Description
I stumbled across this delightful scene by chance. Merice and I, together with two teenage grandkids, were exploring the Wolds by car looking for a suitable picnic venue. This was off an old single track road from Kilham to the deserted mediaeval village of Cottam. This derelict chapel is all that remains. It is situated in the middle of a field with no other sign of human habitation and is slowly being overtaken by Mother Nature. What a glorious experience it must have been for devout worshippers of old to congregate here overlooking the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Wolds to worship their God but they are now long gone. The meadows were awash with golden buttercups but also contained a very large bull with his harem of cows and calves so we didn�t venture any closer. I have made half hearted attempts to find out the name of the chapel but I think it might spoil the magic so am content to let it remain anonymous to symbolise the timelessness of nature compared to our fleet...
