Description
This painting was inspired by the drive home after a very enjoyable dinner with friends in Kilham. Woldgate is the road made famous by David Hockney especially in his ‘Bigger Picture’ one man exhibition at the Royal Academy, and is the course of an old Roman road that ran from Bridlington to Eboracum (York). There had been heavy storms all evening but by the time we were homeward bound it was finally clearing leaving this wonderful scene of bright, sharp colours. I painted it quickly trying to concentrate on the ‘feel’ of the scene rather than going for factual representation. Apparently this particular stretch of Woldgate is properly named Fondbrig Lane.
