I painted this for an exhibition entitled Animal Magic a couple of years ago. As I don't normally include animals in my paintings it was a very enjoyable challenge. I was trying to convey the idea that even amidst the peaceful serenity of this forest twilight the stag still had to watchful as his hind stooped to drink....just in case!
